Before she was one of the greatest mythical monsters of all time, Medusa was a kind, beautiful sea-nymph in Athena's service. Devoted and beautiful she rose in Athena’s service, then she caught the eye of Poseidon. His violence and Athena’s jealousy created a monster. Join us in this theatrical retelling of the little-known origins of the cursed Medusa.
MEDUSA: Female-presenting, 20s, a mortal woman from the sea. The character of MEDUSA is involved in non-consensual intimate violence.
ATHENA NIKE: Female-presenting, 20’s-30’s, the Goddess of War and Strategy.
POSEIDON: Male-presenting, 30’s, the God of the Sea. The character of POSEIDON is involved in non-consensual intimate violence.
STHENO: Female-presenting, 20’s-30’s, Medusa’s immortal sea-gorgon sister.
ECHO: Female-presenting, late 30’s to 40’s, the high priestess at the temple of Athena
This production contains scenes depicting sexual assault offstage (heard, not seen) and will have an Intimacy Professional. This production explores how rape culture reverberates through the ages, and calls attention to the great injustice suffered by female victims of abuse.
Auditions will be online (Zoom) on February 27, 2021, with in-person Masked Callbacks on February 28, 2021.
Rehearsals begin virtually in March.
